If you’re planning on taking a road trip with your family, you likely have everything planned out. You know where you’ll stop for the night and what activities you want to do. However, have you thought about how you want to keep your kids busy on the trip? Just hoping that they’ll figure it out themselves is likely going to be the quickest way to ruin your trip. Instead, here are some ways you can keep your kids happy while they’re in the car.
Activity Books
Because kids tend to lose interest in things quickly, you should consider keeping a variety of activity books on hand for them to choose from. Depending on their age and ability level, you could have crossword puzzles, logic puzzles, mazes, or cryptograms. You could also consider something like religious word search books to better solidify their religious knowledge while keeping busy. Make sure you keep plenty of writing utensils on hand for them to use alongside the activity books.
Interactive Games
When traveling for a long time, you sometimes have to change it up and find ways to get the kids excited. An excellent way to do that is through interactive games. The best way to play these games is by asking everyone in the car to play.
One interactive game you can play is to see if your family can find each letter of the alphabet on different signs and license plates you pass. Start with A and see how long it takes you to get to Z. You’ll likely find that your whole family eagerly looks for each new letter.
Sing Songs
While this might test your patience a bit, you could sing songs with the kids to help them pass the time. You can either sing nursery rhymes or favorite children’s songs or use a music app to play their latest favorites that everyone sings along to. Let each child take turns picking their favorite song, so no shouting matches break out.
